Once a private retreat of Michigan lumber magnate Edward F. Loud and his family, Loud Island is over 30 acres of densely wooded bliss, set in Van Etten Lake just two miles from the gorgeous shores of Lake Huron in northeastern Michigan. Its perfect location puts you close to a public airport, over 230,000 acres of National Forest, the beautiful AuSable River and numerous golf courses. The historic cedar and hemlock lodge is set high on the peninsula of the island with breathtaking views to the east and west, start your day off with a cup of coffee and the sunrise and end the day with a glass of wine and the sunset! Extensive foundation-to-roof renovations done in the 1980's and 90's paid careful attention to preserving the lodge's original character. The 33x30 living room features custom California Redwood furnishings, the dining room seats 12, and the kitchen has been fully modernized. Seven bedrooms, three baths, a large sitting room, an office, and an exercise room round out the lodge's roomy interior. Next to the lodge you have a caretaker's home and a heated workshop. The primary power of electricity comes via underwater cable with Geothermal pumps to heat and cool the lodge. The island's central clearing, which houses maintenance equipment and a tractor, is also perfect for a helicopter pad. While ideal for a family sanctuary, Loud Island could easily be developed into a destination for numerous owners.
